Streamlining My Home

About Me

Streamlining My Home

After we started having problems with the electrical outlets in my home, I decided that I had to do something to make things right. I began working hard to take care of things around my house, but it didn't seem to help until I called a professional electrician. They came in, helped me to identify problems quickly, and then worked hard to streamline things around my home. They replaced a lot of the electrical wiring, and then they let me know about a few appliance problems they spotted along the way. I wanted to start a new blog that focused on identifying electrical concerns, so here you are.

3 Important But Often Missed Places For Recessed Lighting In Your Home

Your home is your humble abode where you relax and unwind, but it is also a functional place. Recessed lighting is one of those small details in a house that people don't realize they need until they see just how functional it can be. If you have been considering adding some recessed lighting to your home, you will be looking at all the different areas it can be used. Here is a short list of important but often missed places in the house where recessed lighting just makes sense.

Under the Kitchen Cabinets

That narrow strip between the upper and lower cabinets in your kitchen is probably one of the most used places in the whole room. This is where you stick things like small kitchen appliances and probably where you do a lot of food preparation. However, the overhead cabinets tend to block out overhead light, so a little extra light under that upper row of cabinets is a good solution. Recessed lighting can be fitted under these cabinets so that you don't even know it is there until you turn the lights on.

Over the Entertainment Center in the Living Room

The living room tends to be the one place in the house where people go to relax, watch a movie, play a game, or just chat. Unfortunately, regular overhead light fixtures do little to support the calm atmosphere you want in this space in your home. Plus, regular pendant lights tend to create an ugly glare on modern flat-screen televisions. Recessed lighting in your living room, specifically over the entertainment center area, is an excellent addition. These lights cast a soft radiance on the walls without interfering with the light from electronic screens.

Over the Bed In the Bedroom

Imagine this: you are resting in bed at night with a book. The light in the center of the room is just too much, and fumbling with a bedside lamp is a pain. Instead of the typical light sources in your bedroom, consider installing a few recessed lights just over where your bed is situated. These lights can be installed so they are individually operated with their own switches, so you can turn on one without lighting the entire room. Plus, the lights can be put on dimmer switches, and they can also be mounted in moveable fixtures so you can put a spotlight right over the right places in the bed.
